How To Be a Person When the World is Ending

MF22-How-To-Be-a-Person-When-the-World-is-EndingFollowing its world premiere at 2022 Edinburgh Fringe, How To Be a Person When the World Is Ending – an exploration of the Gen Z apocalypse by Myfanwy Hocking, will make its Australian debut at Theatre Works as part of the 2022 Melbourne Fringe Festival from 18 October.

The world is ending. Four friends wait for the next Big Bang. A couple scroll listlessly. A girl gets hot to ensure her body is beautiful when she’s buried. And a sad clown gets up, puts his costume on, and goes to work.

“I was expecting a knock. A crash. A fucking bang. I was expecting the walls to shatter and the ground to open to molten magma and my house to float down the street. But as far as I’ve seen, the end of the world is watching shit TV with you fucks.”

This is not the purge. No one is getting butchered. The worst part of the world ending is waiting for it to fucking happen already.

Exploring themes of apocalypticism, queerness, feminism, and friendship, How To Be a Person When the World Is Ending showcases a queer, young Australian cast and creative team in a spectacular exploration of youth in a fragile world.

Written by Myfanwy Hocking (Melbourne Theatre Company, Theatre Works), teamed with Director Meg Dunn (National Tour, NuWorks Theatre) and Producer Flick (ATYP, Nightingale Content, Theatre Works), How To Be a Person When the World is Ending is a stunning hour-long dark comedy.

“How To Be a Person When the World Is Ending is what would happen if Caryl Churchill and Bo Burnham collaborated.” – Talking Horse Theatre
