SUGAR

BHC-Tomas-Kantor-in-Sugar-photo-by-James-Reiser-3Theatrically outrageous, silly and sexy, the award-winning production SUGAR will make its Queensland premiere as part of the 2025 Melt Festival in the Underground Theatre – Brisbane Powerhouse, for 2 nights only on 31 October and 1 November.

Tomáš Kantor’s award-winning debut is about Sugar – a radiantly-beautiful gender-fluid twink who discovers that there’s money to be made from ‘transactional relationships’ (though their primary source of information is Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman). What could go wrong?

Tomáš veritably shimmers with charisma, and reveals their talent not only as a storyteller, but a multi-instrumentalist and a superstar-in-the-making. Pop hits from Kylie to Chappell Roan pack this electric cabaret about luxury, power, and being paid to have sex on a grand piano.

Written by Ro Bright (a Scotsman Fringe First award winner for Daffodils at Edinburgh Fringe), this narrative-driven cabaret is directed by Green Room award-winning director Kitan Petkovski (The Inheritance) with musical directions and arrangements by Rachel Lewindon, visual design by Bethany J Fellows and lighting design by Spencer Herd.

Bullet Heart Club (BHC) is a Naarm based creative-industry duo who collaborate with multidisciplinary artists from queer, TGD (trans and gender diverse) and migrant communities to create ever-evolving cross-form projects that integrate theatre with live music, film and performance art.

Established in 2013, BHC is led by queer theatre director Kitan Petkovski (he/him) and playwright/screenwriter Ro Bright (they/them). Together their innovative approach to cross-form theatre has seen them recognised with a Scotsman Fringe First Award (Daffodils, Traverse Theatre 2016) and two Green Room Awards (The Gospel According to Jesus Queen of Heaven).
