Pride WA members have elected a new committee to oversee operations and preparations for the organisation’s 25th anniversary celebrations later this year. The committee was elected at the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM), with executive positions elected at a subsequent meeting of the newly elected committee.
The new committee is Andrew Barker (President), Michelle Rogers (Senior Vice President), Graham Lovelock (Vice President), Marcus Remta (Secretary), Colin McDonald (Treasurer), Amy Henderson, Karron Swinn, Nicole Corbett, Maryanne Wilson and Danny Tan.
Incoming President Andrew Barker said the new committee provided Pride WA with an exciting mix of experience and new skills.
“The new committee has the skills and experience we need to continue Pride WA’s transformation into a sustainable arts, culture and community organisation,” Mr Barker said. “We have some great opportunities ahead of us in this, our 25th year, and I am confident we’ve got the team in place to make the most of them.”
Mr Barker said the new committee had identified three key priorities for the organisation. “Our main priority this year will be to build on the work of our recent strategic review and develop a sustainable business model for our arts, culture and community focus,” said Mr Barker.
“As a part of this, we will also prioritise the development of added value for our members, supporters and sponsors, in recognition of the loyalty and support they provide us. A third priority will be the development of a strong brand for both the organisation, and our arts, culture and community program. The Parade, Festival and Fairday, as our flagship events, will be a strong part of this brand.”
Mr Barker thanked the outgoing committee for their contribution to the organisation. “On behalf of Pride WA, my thanks goes to everyone who served on the committee during 2014. My particular thanks go to former co-presidents Michelle Rigg and Daniel Smith. Both Michelle and Daniel played an important role in refocusing Pride WA over the last two years and we wish them well for the future.”
