Inner West Pride Walk brings LGBTIQA+ history to life

Developed by Inner West Council in collaboration with rainbow community elders, queer historians and LGBTIQA+ organisations and groups, the self-guided history tour explores 17 significant sites spanning early activism and social movements through to contemporary spaces of inclusion, connection and pride.

Combining commemorative plaques with an interactive map, oral history recordings and archival photographs, the Pride Walk brings local queer history into the streets where many of its stories unfolded.

The Inner West has long been a place where LGBTIQA+ communities have gathered, organised and created spaces of belonging. The Pride Walk recognises those who helped pave the way for greater equality and inclusion, while also celebrating the people and organisations continuing to advocate for and care for rainbow communities today.

Inner West Council gratefully acknowledges the assistance of Pride History Group Sydney and all the individuals, community groups and organisations who have contributed to the development of the Pride Walk so far, including:

  • Shirleene Robinson AM
  • Peter de Waal AM
  • Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence
  • The Pollys
  • Twenty10
  • The Gender Centre
  • Inner West LGBTQ+ Local Democracy Group

More than a record of the past, the Inner West Pride Walk is an invitation to discover a living history of activism, resilience, community and pride.
