In The Room Where He Waits

In the Room Where He WaitsAfter sold-out sessions in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, and special event screenings in Adelaide and Perth, the new Australian psychological thriller film, In The Room Where He Waits, is heading to Canberra and returning to Sydney and Brisbane with a Q&A featuring special panel guests.

The unnerving, slow burn feature film follows Tobin Wade, an ambitious young star whose deepest, most subconscious fears crawl to the surface when he is forced to isolate in a hotel room before his father’s funeral.

Though many of us introverts believe we’d thrive in solitary confinement, In the Room Where He Waits will make you question that resolve… just as Tobin must as he is forced to confront whoever – or whatever – is trapped in the hotel room with him.

In The Room Where He Waits is the haunting debut film from local Australian filmmaker Timothy Despina Marshall, and will be launching in select cinemas across Australia next week. The film had its world premiere at Mardi Gras Film Festival 2024, where it was one of Variety’s Top 5 Picks for the Festival.

The tormented lead Tobin is played by rising star Daniel Monks, who also appeared in indie horror Sissy, Aussie-made comedy Ricky Stanicky, and will next be seen in Netflix’s Kaos alongside Jeff Goldblum.

In the Room Where He Waits is co-produced by Timothy Despina Marshall, Bec Dakin, and Stephanie Westwood, and stars Monks alongside Susie Porter, Annabel Marshall-Roth, Anthony Brandon Wong, Nicholas Papademetriou, Sunny S. Walia and Chris Bartholomew.

It was executive produced by Kurt Royan and Dan Lake through Orange Entertainment Co, who recently had their debut feature Audrey premiere at SXSW to critical acclaim.

“Not only one of the best queer Australian films it is also one of the best Australian debut features. Haunting, deeply affecting, and resonant.” – Nadine Whitney (Alliance of Women Film Journalists)
