Siren Theatre Co EDEN Lara Lightfoot and Karinne Kanaan photo by Natalia LadykoFollowing a critically acclaimed season at the recent Adelaide Fringe, Siren Theatre Co presents EDEN, Kate Gaul’s new play at The Substation – Qtopia Sydney this April.

A lyrical coming-of-age story about identity, desire, and the cost of becoming, EDEN follows Kit and Dan as their lives hover between past and possibility. Desire, guilt, and the ache for belonging entwine as the pair navigate a landscape where myth blurs the present, and where every step toward self-knowledge carries a cost.

Infused with a distinctive theatrical language, EDEN unfolds as part confession, part elegy, part mystery. As the story deepens, beauty and danger become inseparable, revealing the fragile moment when identity takes shape – and something precious is lost forever.

Kate Gaul is a Sydney-based theatre and opera director, creative producer, writer, and Artistic Director of Siren Theatre Co. A graduate of NIDA (Directing), and undertook a residency with SITI Company (NYC). Her directing work spans new Australian writing, opera, physical theatre, devised works, and reimagined classics.

Recent credits include directing The Magic Flute for Opera Australia (2024), premiering Noëlle Janaczewska’s The Past is a Wild Party, commissioning and directing CAMP for a sell-out Sydney WorldPride season, and The End of Winter, which premiered at Adelaide Fringe, toured nationally, and appeared at Singapore Fringe in 2025. Her productions are recognised for their imaginative form and actor-centred practice.
