Adelaide’s Feast Festival turns 21

Feast Festival 2017 Poster DesignIt’s a big birthday celebration for South Australia’s longest running Queer Arts and Cultural Festival and kicking off the festivities for 2017 is the launch of this year’s poster design and theme, 21 – a milestone.

“21 is the key to the door, the transition to adulthood, reflecting on the past, being in the present, looking towards the future. Turning 21 is definitely time to celebrate” said this year’s Festival Producer and one of Feast’s co-founders, Margie Fischer.

“This year’s program harnesses the expertise and creativity of SA Queer artists and health workers and community members in two Advisory committees. Their input will ensure a balance of artistic and community events for Feast 2017.”

In its 21st year, the Festival will showcase the kaleidoscope of SA queer artists, culture and community. One such artist is Grace Mitchell, who has the designed this year’s festival poster.

Grace is an emerging Adelaide artist and graphic designer, who channels her creativity through many projects including; designing the Rainbow Calendar Project 2016 -2017, IDAHOT Day ( International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia) publicity, the creation of the I Need Safe Schools/Safe Schools Save Lives campaign materials, graphic design for queer youth projects for the Migration Museum, Shine SA.

“I’m thrilled to be designing the 21st Feast poster,” said Grace. I wanted to make it very clear this is a milestone, a key is synonymous with 21 and the poster reflects the fun and inclusive nature of Feast with bright colours and activity.”

Joining Margie is Helen Sheldon, General Manager and James Landseer, Marketing/PR and Artist Liaison. Helen brings a wealth of arts experience, most recently as General Manager of leading SA Arts Company Vitalstatistix, while James has worked with Feast for three years now, providing lived experience and commitment to marketing, and supporting queer artists.

The 21st Feast Festival runs 11 – 26 November 2017. Festival registrations open mid May ahead of the Program Launch in September. For more information, visit: www.feast.org.au for details.
