From whittling entries down to an outstanding top 40, Alana Naylor has taken out the prize with her original artwork titled Fleur de Fringe.

The Adelaide-born graphic designer and digital illustrator, now living in Cairns, Queensland, created a piece that is reflective of the transformation felt throughout the city during Adelaide Fringe, making use of simple shapes, inspired by native flora, and bold colour to portray the sense of vibrancy and energy synonymous with Fringe.

“The Poster Competition saw an exceptional amount of talent come forward this year, with artists and creatives from across the country submitting some really incredible works,” said Adelaide Fringe CEO and Artistic Director Heather Croall.

“The brief for 2023 was to represent Fringe as “the sunshine after the rain”, and after much deliberation we decided that Alana’s work encapsulated that message beautifully and would make a spectacular addition to the upcoming season.”

As the winner of the 2023 Poster Competition, Alana will receive $6,000 in prize money courtesy of Principal Partner BankSA, free registration for an exhibition at the 2023 Adelaide Fringe, and the enormous exposure of her design becoming the symbol of Australia’s biggest arts festival next year.

“It was great to see so many wonderful entries to the poster competition for 2023, and announcing the winner is such an exciting part of the Fringe story each year,” said BankSA State General Manager, Consumer, Ben Owen.

“At BankSA we take great pride in helping elevate the career of the winning artist through specially sponsoring this milestone, and we commend Alana on her stunning work.”

On winning the poster Competition, Alana Naylor said “I never in a million years would have thought I’d win the Adelaide Fringe Poster Competition. While surreal, it’s an absolute honour to be such a significant and visual part of an event that has been close to my heart for so long,” she said.

“I am very grateful to have been chosen as the winner and need to give a massive shout out to Adelaide Fringe and BankSA for making this dream come true,” said Alana.
