Australia’s Marriage Equality advocates have welcomed the US Supreme Court decision that paves the way for marriage equality across the USA.
“The US Supreme Court will provide even more momentum for marriage equality in Australia than the Irish referendum,” said Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome. “It confirms Australia’s place as the only developed English-speaking country that doesn’t allow same-sex couples to marry.”
sex marriages while places like Alabama and Mississippi allow them. It confirms marriage equality is guaranteed by the right to equality, a right that is both upheld in the US Constitution and held dear by millions of Australians.”
“The world will now stop asking ‘will the US adopt marriage equality’ and start asking ‘why hasn’t Australia’? The combined pressure from all these sources may well be enough to tip the Government into allowing a free vote and tip the numbers in parliament into a majority.”
