Step into the vibrant world of Sunday Jemmott – a dynamic emerging artist whose colourful, texturally rich works exude joy and wonder. Working across painting, drawing, sculpture and mixed media, Sunday transforms everyday materials into playful works that celebrate self-expression.
In association with Melt Festival 2026, Museum of Brisbane will host a series of drop-in Scribble Station workshops, inviting the community to draw and create alongside the artist contributing to Sunday’s Scribble Sanctuary exhibition opening in early 2027.
Scribble Station workshops will run throughout Melt Festival on Wednesdays 21 October, 28 October, 4 November and Sunday 8 November 2026, from 10.00am to 1.00pm at the Museum of Brisbane – City Hall. The workshops are suitable for all ages, entry is free, and no bookings are required. Drop in and create!
Museum of Brisbane CEO & Director Zoe Graham said Sunday’s practice was a perfect fit for the Museum’s Artist in Residence program. “We are delighted to welcome Sunday to Museum of Brisbane as an Artist in Residence,” said Graham.
“Their vibrant, playful approach to drawing and mark-making captures exactly the kind of creativity and self-expression we love to champion at MoB, We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Melt Festival and can’t wait to see how audiences respond to Sunday’s invitation to scribble, play and connect.”
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the workshops were an invitation for Brisbane to rediscover its creative side. “As Australia’s lifestyle capital, we’re proud to have such an exciting creative community, who create more to see and do across our suburbs,” said Cr Schrinner.
“Museum of Brisbane’s Artist in Residence program shines the spotlight on creatives across our city and provide a great opportunity to get out and try something new, for free. We encourage budding artists of all ages to drop in and create at Museum of Brisbane.”
This year, Museum of Brisbane marks a decade of the Artist in Residence program, which is generously supported by Tim Fairfax AC. Since 2016, the program has commissioned and championed local artists to create new works within the Museum, sparking community connection and open dialogue. Each residency adds to the rich tapestry of Brisbane’s cultural landscape.
Sunday Jemmott’s immersive installation will transform the Museum’s entrance into a vibrant and colourful Scribble Sanctuary for locals and visitors to enjoy. As part of Sunday’s residency, audiences can also connect with the artist at Spring School Holiday workshops and a special after-dark Crafty Party event hosted with fellow Artist in Residence, Renee Kire.
The Scribble Station workshops with Sunday Jemmott will take place at Museum of Brisbane on Wednesday 21 October, Wednesday 28 October, Wednesday 4 November and Sunday 8 November 2026. The Scribble Sanctuary exhibition will take place in early 2027. For more information, visit: www.museumofbrisbane.com.au for details.
