On Sunday 11 July, Premier Daniel Andrews announced that Midsumma would be delivering Melbourne Pride 2021 – a State Government initiative designed to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality within Victoria.
Melbourne Pride 2021 will be a large-scale, multi-generational and intersectional one-day street festival to be held on Sunday 5 December in the northern suburbs of Melbourne.
To ensure state-wide representation of this important celebration, funds are being made available to directly encourage and facilitate involvement in activities either in the lead-up to or on the day within a regional context.
Midsumma wants your proposals for a wide range of regional LGBTQIA+ centric projects including commemorations, commissions/artworks, documented community stories, sharing of historical collections and exhibitions, to ensure statewide representation, shared regional experiences, and overall engagement with Melbourne Pride 2021.
“Midsumma is thrilled to be working with the State Government to deliver such an important event, commemorating the significance of decriminalisation and the long journey to PRIDE for our diverse communities before, and since, and continuing right through to today,” said Karen Bryant, CEO – Midsumma.
“Representation of regional LGBTQIA+ communities and individual stories, histories and artworks will be instrumental to making Melbourne Pride 2021 a truly statewide celebration, inclusive of all.”
Applications are now open and close midnight – Tuesday 10 August 2021. For more information and to apply, visit: www.midsumma.org.au for details.
