On Saturday 24 October, hundreds of West Australians will have the opportunity to sing with the Tik Tok sensation as part of the City of Perth World Opera Day celebrations.

York who has over 700,000 followers on both Tik Tok and Instagram, first came to prominence after competing on Eurovision – Australia Decides back in 2022.

Since then, he has continued to captivate audiences around the world with his musical prowess, most notably at last year’s Australia TikTok Awards where he performed a heartfelt rendition of ABBA’s Slipping through My Fingers with his mother, opera singer, Liza Beamish – which has since been viewed over 12 million times on his TikTok page alone.

In addition to his musical talents, York is known for being a leading champion for the LGBTIQA+ community and uses his massive social media presence to actively champion queer identity and visibility.

As part of this commitment, York has been commissioned by West Australian Opera to compose two original songs for YOUnity, a powerful new initiative that amplifies the voices of LGBTIQA+ community living in remote and regional Western Australia.

York will perform one of these new original songs at the City of Perth World Opera Day event for the very first time.

“We are incredibly excited to have partnered with Jude York for the YOUnity Project,” said West Australian Opera’s Executive Director, Carolyn Chard AM.

“At WAO we firmly believe in the power of the human voice and its ability to share stories, and we have long admired how Jude York uses his exceptional talent and voice to uplift members of the community.”

“We are looking forward to welcoming hundreds of West Australians to His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday to sing along with Jude in celebration of World Opera Day.”

The City of Perth World Opera Day sing-along is a FREE event that runs from 11.00am – 12.00pm. Participants must register beforehand and will receive their sheet music in advance. No skillset or experience is required.
