One of the great things about each iteration of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival is the opportunity to discover new comedians or shows hoping to make their mark in a festival setting.
One such comedian is Chris Demos presenting his debut show, Legs in the Pool, in the historic surrounds of Tasma Terrace in East Melbourne.
A former Victorian RAW Comedy State Finalist, Demos is instantly likable, making an immediate connection with his audience through a series of vignettes that are delivered with a level of honesty and sincerity.
Drawing on his Greek heritage, Demos takes a dip into the pool of life, exploring the internal battles of coming out, managing family expectations, relationships and dodging those awkward moments surrounding marriage, there is plenty of humour on offer here.
Throw in a few snippets of Shania Twain (That Don’t Impress Me Much) and a reference to former Britain’s Got Talent contestant, Susan Boyle, Demos weaves a story that is not only self depreciating, but also self affirming.
Chris Demos is a comedian on the rise and one to look out for if he comes your way.
