Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs

Alan Cumming - photo by TreNamed one of the most fun people in show business by Time Magazine, Olivier and Tony Award winning actor, singer and author, Alan Cumming returns to Brisbane and Melbourne this week, following his Adelaide Cabaret Festival debut last weekend, with his raucous one-man show – a wildly entertaining mix of intimate stories from the sentimental to the sassy and witty reinterpretations of pop songs and stage classics.

Inspired by Cumming’s year hosting the infamous Club Cumming in his dressing room during the revival of Sam Mendes’ production of Cabaret on Broadway, he recently scored rave reviews during a residency at New York’s legendary Carlyle Hotel.

Joining him on stage for a night of irreverent humour and mischief-making is long-time collaborator and Emmy Award winning musical director Lance Horne, Chris Jago on drums, and Eleanor Norton on cello.

Alan Cumming is as enthralling and nimble with Shakespeare as he is with show tunes, and an irresistible presence in any room. He’s garnered a legion of fans through his career, including his acclaimed turn as Eli Gold on CBS’s The Good Wife, his work as a columnist, and author of the New York Times best-selling memoir, Not My Father’s Son.

Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs is an eclectic, wildly-entertaining mix of intimate stories – from the sentimental to the sassy – and witty reinterpretations of pop songs and stage classics, especially tailored for his tour down under.

“Taking command of the stage with the ease of a vaudevillian who has been treading the boards for decades, Mr. Cumming entertained with a capital E.” – New York Times
