Broad Encounters has announced the remarkable multi-disciplinary cast of the brand new immersive theatrical epic Love Lust Lost ahead of its first preview tonight (Friday 8 September 2023) at The Austral, Collingwood.
Trained in aerial acrobatics, circus, physical theatre, music, ballet, contemporary dance, theatre and improvisational comedy, the eight-strong cast will showcase their diverse skills in an intoxicating new 360-degree sensory experience that places the audience at the centre of the action.
Leading the interactive journey is Sandro Colarelli as the charismatic Captain Anderson, fresh from his role as Tony Goochera in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis. Cabaret artiste Meg Hickey joins him as Salacia alongside internationally acclaimed aerialist Bri Emrich as the Captain’s daughter, Sandy.
Skilled musician Chloe Towan plays Sandy’s confidant, Claude, physical theatre specialist Sho Eba plays the mischievous Trink, interdisciplinary performance artist Kristian Šanti? plays The Chef who knows too much, contemporary dancer Jeremy Lloyd plasy Chan, the Narcissist, and hip-hop and street dancer Callum Mooney plays the mystical Sea Creature.
Love Lust Lost creator, producer and co-writer Kirsten Siddle shared her excitement to have found such a uniquely accomplished and multi-talented cast to realise her ambitious vision.
“This show is bigger and more demanding than anything we have attempted before, so I’m ecstatic to have found such an incredible cast of performers, each with such wealth of experience that is both specialist and spans so many art forms,” said Kirsten.
“I’m really in awe of what they bring to this show, and I love that we can showcase so much of it in this epic production. Each day of rehearsals just gets more and more exciting.”
Following on from the success of underground gothic hit A Midnight Visit, which attracted more than 67,000 people throughout Australia and ran for an impressive 16 weeks in Melbourne, Love Lust Lost tears up the rule book of conventional theatre and delivers a whole new world to explore in a performance that melds music, spoken word, dance, circus, soundscapes, scent and spectacle to dazzling effect.
Arriving at The Austral, audiences are ushered into The Kraken’s Lair, a bespoke onsite bar serving choice libations courtesy of The Kraken Black Spiced Rum. From here, they embark upon the E.V. Nautilus and are transported into an underwater theatrical playground, free to explore its depths at their own pace. Complete with secret rooms, hidden bars and puzzles to solve, no two experiences will be the same.
The mammoth undertaking is conceived by a creative and production team of over 100 people and will be performed in more than 40 intricately designed spaces across three floors spanning more than 1900 sq. metres, making it the most expansive immersive theatre show to ever play in Melbourne.
Co-written by Kirsten Siddle and Helen Cassidy, Love Lust Lost is brought to life by Kirsten Siddle (Creative Director), Scott Maidment (Stage Director), Nigel Poulton (Fight Director), Drew Fairley (Associate Stage Director), Jo Cotterill (Choreographer), Josh McIntosh (Set Design), James Browne (Set Design), Mike Finch (Head of Design), Michael Theiler and Peret von Sturmer (Sound Design), Jason Glenwright (Lighting Design), Mik La Vage (Musical Arrangements) and Melanie Gillbank and Laurie Verling (Costume Design).
