Following its success in 2014, Yarra Glen Football Netball Club is once again proud to present the Pride Cup – a celebration of diversity and inclusion in sport on Sunday 17 May 2015 to mark International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO).
In 2014, Yarra Glen and Yarra Junction competed in the Inaugural Pride Cup in both football and netball. After winning promotion to Division 1 in the Yarra Valley Mountain Districts Football Netball League, Yarra Glen will play the 2015 Pride Cup games against Warburton Millgrove at the Yarra Glen Recreation Reserve.
Brock McLean, former Carlton & Melbourne AFL footballer and Pride Cup ambassador will be playing for Yarra Glen on the day, while former Hawthorn President and Chairman of beyondblue, Jeff Kennett will be present and speak prior the match.
The 50 metre arcs will be painted in rainbow colours – the international symbol for gay pride – and each team will feature rainbows in their jumper designs. Current AFL footballers from the St Kilda Football Club will be there showing their support and running an Auskick clinic during the half time break of the senior football match.
Proudly supported by the AFL, JOY 94.9 – Australia’s first and only gay and lesbian radio station, will broadcast live from the event.
Held in the heart of the Yarra Valley, the Pride Cup presents the perfect opportunity to enjoy a great weekend amongst the wineries, restaurants, views and other attractions in this iconic region, just one hour from the CBD.
The 2015 Pride Cup will take place on Sunday 17 May at the Yarra Glen Recreation Reserve. For more information, visit: www.pridecup.org.au for details.
