The countdown to the biggest night on Brisbane’s LGBTQIA+ calendar continues, with Brisbane Pride announcing that 214 nominations have been revealed for the 65th annual Queens Ball Awards, and community voting is now officially open.
Community members are encouraged to cast their votes via www.brisbanepride.org.au recognising the individuals and organisations who have made outstanding contributions to Queensland’s LGBTQIA+ communities over the past year.
With anticipation building, limited tickets also remain available for the 65th Queens Ball, to be held at Brisbane City Hall on Saturday 20 June 2026. This year’s Queens Ball theme is United Colours of Pride which speaks to the strength that we find when LGBTQIA+ community members stand together.
This year’s event will be hosted by beloved Brisbane drag icon Chocolate Boxx alongside Paul Wheeler, promising an evening of glamour, celebration and community spirit in one of the city’s most iconic venues.
Brisbane Pride President James McCarthy said the Queens Ball remains a cornerstone event for LGBTQIA+ community members, bringing people together to celebrate, reflect and honour shared achievements.
“The Queens Ball is more than just a celebration – it’s a powerful expression of our community’s history, resilience and pride,” said Mr McCarthy.
“For nearly 65 years, this event has recognised the incredible people and organisations who strengthen and uplift our communities, while also creating a space where everyone can come together in joy and solidarity.”
Mr McCarthy said this year’s Ball holds particular significance, as it will pay tribute to the founder and long-time organiser of the event, Dame Sybil Von Thorndyke.
“As we gather this year, we will honour the extraordinary legacy of Dame Sybil, whose vision and dedication created what is now believed to be the longest continuously running LGBTQIA+ event in the world,” he said.
“Her contribution to our communities is immeasurable, and the 2026 Queens Ball will be a fitting tribute to her life, her work, and the enduring impact she has had on generations of Queenslanders.”
Held in the grand surrounds of Brisbane City Hall, the Queens Ball will once again transform the venue into a spectacular showcase of performance, recognition and pride, culminating in the announcement of this year’s award winners.
The Queen’s Ball will be held at Brisbane Town Hall on Saturday 20 June 2026. For more information, including how to vote and to purchase tickets, visit: www.brisbanepride.org.au for details.
