The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the LGBTQIA community. Around the world, more than 220 pride celebrations have been cancelled or postponed. In 2020, the Sydney Pride festival will launch and be an online platform this June with the theme, Love Stream.
In a time where we can not be together to remember our history and celebrate Sydney Pride, the 2020 festival will integrate our community together online – with links to LGBTQIA entertainment, talks, documentaries, children story time, health and fitness, education, movie and TV recommendations and much more. Global Pride – an online event with numerous national hosts has been scheduled for 27 June 2020.
A grass roots festival, Sydney Pride aims to pass on our collective history to the next generation while raising awareness of a wide range of LGBTQI Charities, Organisations and businesses. The festival will place a focus on how we have changed as a community through the pandemic and how our online community has become more important than ever.
Sydney Pride will remember the pursuit for acceptance and total equality for all our LGBTQI brothers and sisters. They will also reach out and help those struggling with sexual identity, bullying, drugs or just feeling that life is too hard to stand strong and ask for help. Connecting together in Solidarity. This is Love Stream Pride!
Pride month is also a time to remember the Stonewall Riots and the beginning of Gay liberation as we know it. The Sydney Pride festival is dedicated to those that lead the way back in 1969, who fought for equality and human rights, and the incredible strength of those who marched in the first Sydney Mardi Gras in 1978.
Last year the Sydney Pride Festival contained over 100 events that included art, cinema, trivia, debates, sports, fundraising activities and club events across Sydney. This year will be very different but we feel it is very important to change during these very different times and stay connected.
