Castlemaine Pride will host its first-ever queer bake-off, Queer Cakes & Butch Bakes, on Sunday 10 November 2024 for their Castlemaine community to make the gayest, deadliest and best pastry in the town.
Victoria’s Pride Regional Activation Program, delivered by Midsumma Festival, is proudly supporting this event to bring joy, entertainment and mouth-watering food to celebrate the culture, history, creativity and determination of the LGBTQIA+ community in Castlemaine.
There will be six prize categories – with some fabulous prizes on offer to the winner of each category including:
- Gayest Cake – Yass queen… unleash your inner diva!
- Best Tart – If pastry is your passion, you can puff up or get short!
- Beyond the Binary – Most non-conforming flavour palette
- Deadliest Cake – Most fabulous feature of native ingredients
- This cake is ‘brat’ – Best youth entry under the age of 18
- ‘People’s Choice’ Award – Power to the people!
Alongside the competition, there will be entertainment provided by queer cowgirl Jess Parker and a tea party hosted by the Silver Rainbow Social Club.
Castlemaine Pride is a volunteer-led community group that supports the LGBTQIA+ community in Mount Alexander. Since 2018, it has run Castlemaine Pride Week to celebrate diversity and equality in the region.
Queer Cakes & Butch Bakes is a free, all-ages and all-abilities event that welcomes everybody to enter, bake and eat with pride.
