New program to develop Victoria’s next generation of LGBTI Leaders

Rainbow FlagThe Victorian Government is supporting the State’s next generation of LGBTI community leaders through a ground-breaking new leadership program.

Minister for Equality Martin Foley said the Victorian LGBTI Leadership Program would build a network of emerging community leaders.

“This is all about supporting our next generation of LGBTI leaders – the voices that will inspire others, and build confidence and resilience in our communities,” said Minister Foley. “We are proud to partner with Leadership Victoria to drive this program. I look forward to meeting the first group of emerging LGBTI leaders and hear their stories.”

The program will attract Victorians who have demonstrated drive, passion and a vision to contribute to their community. It is being developed through Leadership Victoria in consultation with an LGBTI advisory group.

“We are pleased to see the Victorian Government investing in the development of LGBTI leaders – and we are grateful to be partnering with them on this revolutionary program,” said Richard Dent OAM, Leadership Victoria CEO.

LGBTI Victorians of all backgrounds are encouraged to get involved – including people from regional and rural areas, culturally and linguistically diverse people, and Victorians from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. These leaders will help drive more inclusive communities, build resilience and be a voice for LGBTI Victorians.

The initial program will run for three years, with the first participants to commence in June 2018. Program activities will involve past and present LGBTI leaders, who will share their experiences as speakers and mentors. Applications will open in March 2018.
