LITTLE SQUIRT

MICF2024-Little-Squirt-Darby-JamesWinner of the Edinburgh Touring Award and Best Cabaret at Melbourne Fringe Festival 2023, LITTLE SQUIRT, the uproarious cabaret by musical comedian Darby James about the process of sperm donation, comes to Malthouse Theatre, as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, until 21 April 2024.

After clicking on a Facebook advert in Melbourne’s final lockdown, Darby becomes a sperm donor and embarks on a hilarious and heartfelt adventure through genetic questionnaires, medical screening and psychological evaluations.

While considering the absurdities of procreation and pondering pathways to queer parenthood Darby finds himself as a seaman stranded in moral purgatory, faced with the question: should we be having children?

Written and performed by Darby James with direction and dramaturgy by Casey Gould (A Lovely Day To Be Online). Set and costume design by Betty Auhl (When The Rain Stops Falling, Iron Lung Theatre).

Darby dives into his first Melbourne International Comedy Festival for a full 22-show season before LITTLE SQUIRT makes its international debut in August at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Darby’s recent work includes Post, A New Musical (Something Blue Productions 2019), Songs of the Northern River (The MC Showroom Hatchery Sponsorship 2019) and Protein (Autonomous Inventions 2021 – 2023).

LITTLE SQUIRT is produced in partnership with boutique production company Quiet RIOT. Founded by award winning Producer Linda Catalano, Quiet RIOT creates pathways for artists to tour locally, nationally and internationally and believes art making has the capacity to create change by encouraging others to look at the world around them differently.
