With a background in executive management, corporate partnerships and community engagement, Tennille was the ideal candidate. Formally the Festival Director of Melbourne’s LGBTIQ arts and cultural festival Midsumma, her proven ability to operate strategically, develop corporate and community partnerships and manage stakeholder expectations, will drive JOY 94.9’s sustainability and future growth.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the JOY94.9 team,” said Tennille. “I’ve been a listener of JOY for over 10 years and know first-hand how important JOY is to the communities it serves.”

In announcing the appointment, JOY 94.9’s President Jed Gilbert thanked Breed Barrett as Interim General Manager, the staff and 300 volunteers, who have ensured the station has continued to kick goals throughout the 94 Days of Summer, and broadcasting nationally for Sydney Mardi Gras.

“We are thrilled to have someone of Tennille’s calibre as our new CEO,” said Mr Gilbert. “I know our staff, volunteers and members will welcome Tennille into the JOY community, and will work well with her collaborative leadership approach.”

Tennille officially commenced in her new role this week (Tuesday 26 April 2016) saying: “It’s an exciting time for all forms of media and JOY is perfectly positioned to further engage and connect the LGBTIQ communities of Victoria, Australia and the rest of the world,” said Tennille.

Tennille’s appointment comes as JOY 94.9 adds twelve new programs and a revamp of daytime scheduling to the brand-new programming grid, which also sees more new volunteers participating, with shows exploring youth issues, feminism, LGBTI Indigenous affairs, rock, metal, RnB and much more – adding to the already diverse programming JOY has to offer!
