Help Bring Pride to Life: Rainbow on the Reef turns five and invites Gladstone to get involved

APN Rainbow on the ReefRainbow on the Reef has announced the dates for its 2026 Pride Festival, marking a major milestone as the much-loved community event celebrates five years of Pride on the Reef.

The 2026 Rainbow on the Reef Festival will take place on 29 – May continuing the organisation’s commitment to creating safe, inclusive and joyful spaces for LGBTQIA+ people, their families, friends and allies across the Gladstone region.

Since its first event in 2021, Rainbow on the Reef has grown into a trusted, community-led Pride festival. Shaped by local voices, grounded in strong safety and accessibility principles, and proudly reflective of regional LGBTQIA+ life.

As the organisation celebrates its fifth year, Rainbow on the Reef is inviting the community to get involved and help bring the festival to life.

“Gladstone is a small community, and many hands really do make light work,” said Rainbow on the Reef President Rhonda Franklin. “Our fifth festival is about celebrating how far we’ve come, and making sure the next five years are even stronger, safer and more inclusive.”

Rainbow on the Reef exists because people step up: volunteers, local organisations, businesses, allies and community members who care about connection, inclusion and belonging.”

Ms Franklin said Pride in a regional community looks different, and that’s a strength. “Our festival belongs to the community. Whether you have a lot of time or just a little, your contribution matters. If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, this anniversary year is the moment to step in and help create something special for Gladstone.”

To welcome new and returning supporters, Rainbow on the Reef is hosting its Annual General Meeting and Pride Planning Gathering, offering an opportunity to learn more about the organisation, hear what’s coming up for the festival year, and explore ways to be involved.
