Blanc de Blanc Encore (review)

SHM-Blanc-de-Blanc-Encore-photo-by-Cameron-Grant-ParenthesyPop the cork and raise your glass – Blanc de Blanc Encore has taken up residency at Spiegel Haus Melbourne for the summer and it’s fizzing over with intoxicating glamour, jaw-dropping acrobatics, and just the right splash of naughtiness.

This champagne-infused spectacle is equal parts cabaret, circus, and cheeky celebration of excess, delivering a night of entertainment that bubbles with brilliance from start to finish.

From the moment you step inside the glittering Spiegel Haus, you’re transported into a world of hedonistic pleasure – think Parisian nightclub meets dreamlike champagne fantasy. The show bursts into life with a mix of high-octane acts, sultry burlesque, and outrageous comedy that keeps the audience on their toes (and often gasping or laughing in delight).

The cast is nothing short of exceptional. Canadian dynamo Felix Pouliot proves a magnetic force both on the pole and as one of the evening’s charismatic emcees, teaming up with fellow Canadian Emile Mathieu for a series of riotously funny and wonderfully risqué interludes that keep the champagne flowing and the crowd cheering for more.

Blanc de Blanc Danielle Summers photo by Steve NapizaMaking her Australian debut, UK aerialist Danielle Summers spins and soars with effortless grace on the hoop, marrying strength and sensuality in midair, while the jaw-dropping flexibility of Mykhailo Makarovoak, the resident contortionist, defies anatomy in ways that draws both audible gasps and applause.

The Australian talent shines just as brightly: Flynn Miller’s sleek, muscular movement adds fire and flair to the dance numbers, while Melanie Hawkins and Clara Fable bring sparkling elegance and allure as the vaudevillian goddesses.

Every act is draped in dazzling costumes, bathed in glittering light, and delivered with an irresistible sense of play. To reveal too much would be to spoil the fun – suffice it to say, there’s never a dull moment. The energy rolls in waves of spectacle and laughter, all driven by a pulsating soundtrack that slides effortlessly from sultry jazz to full-throttle disco.

Blanc de Blanc Encore is adults-only entertainment that manages to be both gloriously bawdy and impressively artistic.
