A gory love letter to horror movies, monsters, and the final girl left standing, Alice Tovey’s bold new show, Not Like The Other Ghouls, will be presented at the Dwa @ The Dom Polski, as part of the 2024 Adelaide Fringe: 19 February – 3 March.
Presented by Antithesis and Heartfelt Havoc, Not Like the Other Ghouls is the immersive, one-woman musical experience that will haunt the Dom Polski.
If you’re a fan of drag campery, musical theatre, fake blood and the Twilight franchise, then welcome home. With songs like Super Gay Power Slut and Teenaged Vampire Boyfriend, this is one for the girls, gays and theys.
A big voice, filled with super villain energy and a Wednesday Addams smile, Alice Tovey is an electric performer who plays with the form like no other. She is a classically trained opera singer turned cabaret nightmare goblin.
They blend genres to create hilarious cabaret-comedies that challenge gender expectations. Alongside working on some of Australia’s best comedy shows (Question Everything, Gruen, The Weekly) and top Australian publications (Sydney Morning Herald, Pedestrian), Tovey is an award-winning Horror director.
Her short film Hen, about a bachelorette party turned monstrous, took home ‘Best Melbourne short’ at Monsterfest 2022, and has toured Australia, Europe and the USA. If there is anyone who has the license to frighten, it’s Alice Tovey.
The first time Alice came to Adelaide Fringe in 2016, she took home an award for Best Emerging Artist. Now they’re back through the generous support of the Adelaide Fringe Fund, and she’s so good it’s scary.
Not Like the Other Ghouls is an unholy marriage of stand up, original song, and a surreal Vincent Price style horror special that will thrill Adelaide audiences beyond their wildest nightmares.
