Inviting audiences to imagine a place where the drinks flow freely, nothing is as it seems, and no one knows your name… catch some of Melbourne’s most daring circus artists in the high octane premiere season of Uncovered at Gasworks Arts Park from 27 January 2016.
Melbourne is renowned for its world class circus performers and creators, and for the first time at Midsumma a brand new physical theatre and circus work has been developed to explore queer themes and experiences using this exciting and captivating medium.
An electric exploration and celebration of sexuality, Uncovered is an odyssey that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and definitely isn’t afraid to get a little steamy. Follow the journey of one man as his greatest dreams, fears and desires are brought to life. Facing characters that will leave a mark on him, and will set his journey on a path he never thought he’d have the courage to walk.
Set to a unique, quintessential soundtrack of your favourite songs, this exhilarating new production uncovers memories of new encounters and sensual moments, while thrilling with edgy, contemporary circus.
“Uncovered came from a desire to tell stories that connect to audiences in a way that doesn’t take itself too seriously, says Creator/performer Dave Coombs. “It’s taking inspiration from first times and those much-loved songs that bring us right back. Instead of tacking gay themes onto a show as an afterthought, Uncovered is taking those themes and using circus to tell those stories, and celebrate the male and female form.”
Created by Dave Coombs in collaboration with AfterDark Theatre and Gasworks Arts Park, Uncovered vows to take circus to a whole new level.
