The much-celebrated musical theatre blockbuster, Twisted Broadway returns for one-night-only at Arts Centre Melbourne on Monday 17 August 2015.
The annual charity concert features internationally-acclaimed music theatre talent singing songs originally penned for the opposite gender in a one-off night of show-stopping, gender-bending entertainment. Having raised over $80,000 for those living with and touched by HIV/AIDS, in 2015 the evening’s hosts Kate Ceberano and Eddie Perfect will lead the gauntlet towards $100,000 mark.
“Music has the incredible ability to bring people together,” said 2015 co-host Kate Ceberano. “Powerful songs, melodies and lyrics can resonate deeply and highlight our shared experiences – both good and bad. Twisted Broadway is a marvellous example of our community coming together through music to support – and celebrate – those of us in need.”
Modelled on the success of New York’s Broadway Backwards, Twisted Broadway is an annual charity concert that has become a sell-out stalwart of Australia’s music theatre calendar. In 2015, audiences will be entertained by performers from Australia’s hit musical productions, including Anything Goes, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Strictly Ballroom, The Lion King, The Rocky Horror Show, West Side Story and many more.
Twisted Broadway is a proud supporter of Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Unique to other charities, Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS focusses its efforts on grass-roots projects led by the Victorian AIDS Council to improve the quality of life of those living with HIV/AIDS.
“Each year, the number of new HIV/AIDS diagnoses is increasing,” said Kate Macdonald, Twisted Broadway Producer. “We have come a long way through education and awareness, but this disease is an important and very real issue for thousands of Australians today.
“Twisted Broadway is a small beacon of support for those affected by this disease. I am humbled by the passion of both audiences and performers alike for such a significant and monumental cause.”
Twisted Broadway is indebted to the generosity of The Production Company, who have donated their venue and the set of Nice Work If You Can Get It as the backdrop for the 2015 concert.
