Following their sold out June concert, Into the Light, which explored the brilliance, energy, and radiance of light, the Melbourne Rainbow Band now turns its focus to its counterpart: darkness, as it presents Into Darkness at the Collingwood Town Hall on Saturday 4 October 2025.
What does darkness mean to us? Is it something to fear, a space of mystery, the unknown, and unease? Or can it also be a place of rest, calm, and peace? Through powerful and evocative music, the Melbourne Rainbow Band will explore the many faces of darkness: its terror, its comfort, and its quiet beauty.
This concert will feature the world premiere performance of Battle for Liberation, a new composition by Connor Taylor. This composition combines minimalist and programmatic styles, taking the audience on an emotional journey of struggle, courage and freedom.
Each section of the music is paired with an original poem, making this work a deeply moving and personal reflection. Also featured will be stunning computational visual art work produced by members of the band under the tutelage of artist Jackson Fumberger.
