Nominations for the 2025 Honour Awards are now open – calling on community members to recognise those who have made a significant impact on the lives of LGBTQ+ people in NSW.
This year, the Honour Awards will be part of ACON 40, ACON’s 40th anniversary community program. Awards will be presented at the ACON 40 Ruby Gala Dinner on Saturday 18 October 2025.
ACON CEO Michael Woodhouse said he was excited to celebrate Honour during ACON’s 40th anniversary. “The Honour Awards recognise people who make a difference to our community,” said Mr Woodhouse.
“ACON is celebrating 40 years of community care, health and action through a series of storytelling events about the progress of community and ACON’s place in it. Honour Award recipients are a magnificent part of that story.”
“This year’s Honour will centre on three important categories: the Young Achiever Award, the Community Hero Award, and the ACON President’s Award.”
Since 2007, the Honour Awards have recognised the efforts of individuals whose work and leadership have made a lasting difference in LGBTQ+ communities across NSW. This year’s awards continue to honour those whose impact is not always in the spotlight but is vital to the wellbeing of the state’s LGBTQ+ community.
Woodhouse emphasised the importance of the Honour Awards in 2025: “There is a lot to be concerned about in the world right now. A strong community, led by people who stand up for us all, help us all live healthier and happier lives,” he said.
“The Honour Awards are about celebrating people who support and strengthen us all. The Honour Awards shine a light on the people whose dedication and passion help sustain others. We’re excited to be recognising the next group of outstanding community members,” said Mr Woodhouse.
The 40th anniversary program includes more than 30 events across NSW between August and October. Incorporating the Honour Awards into the ACON 40 Ruby Gala Dinner elevates the ceremony, reflecting the significance of both the awards and the anniversary itself.
“The 2025 recipients will be celebrated in front of a large gathering of community members, leaders, and allies. This moment offers an opportunity for genuine recognition and connection all in a way that respects and reflects the prestigious nature of the awards themselves, as well as the Honour Awards ceremony,” said Mr Woodhouse.
Nominations are open now and can be submitted via the Honour website until Wednesday 3 September. Winners will be announced at the ACON 40 Ruby Gala Dinner on Saturday 18 October at the Hyatt Regency, Sydney.
