Seventy people gathered outside Launceston library this morning to welcome parents and their children to Drag Story Time.
About ten people gathered to oppose the event which has been condemned by the Australian Christian Lobby.
The welcome group, organised by North West Pride and Equality Tasmania, chalked a rainbow leading into the front door.
“It was great to see so many people turn out to defend the values of diversity and inclusion in Launceston,” said North West Pride convener, Garry Wakefield.
“Drag Story Time is an enjoyable way for children to learn about diversity and improve their literacy. Our goal was to ensure parents and children felt welcomed to the Library and not judged.”
