21st Pride March calls for Marriage Equality

Pride March_editorialNearly 5,000 people will march in the 21st Pride March in a historic event to call for marriage equality for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) communities along St Kilda’s Fitzroy Street this Sunday 31 January 2016.

For the first time, Pride March will be focused on a key issue impacting the LGBTI community. At the 21st Pride March, Australian Marriage Equality and Equal Love, who have both been forerunners in the fight for marriage equality will join forces to lead the Pride March.

Close to 170 organisations will walk in support of Pride March including the Premier of Victoria, City of Port Phillip, Dykes on Bikes, the Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Choir, the Rainbow Families Council of Victoria, the Victorian AIDS Council, Team Melbourne to name just a few. The groups marching represent a wide variety of organisations that support the community, provide services or contribute towards the fight for equality.

A number of straight allies will also join Pride March including members of Victoria Police, the Victorian State Emergency Service, players from the St Kilda Football Club and a range of other corporate and government organisations that support the LGBTI community.

The march starts at 2pm from the top of Fitzroy St and finishes at Catani Gardens, where food, entertainment and the celebration of diverse gender and sexuality in our community will continue throughout the day. Order of March is listed below!
